Prof Shaheen made IU Pro VC

Professor Dr. Shaheenur Rahman of English Department at Islamic University (IU) was appointed as new Pro-vice-chancellor of the University.
Chancellor of the university President Zillur Rahman appointed Prof Shaheen as the new Pro-vice chancellor and he gas joined at the universityon Wednesday.
Recently, Professor Shaheen was serving at English Department at Jagannath University. He also served at English Department at Jahangirnagar University.
Earlier, on January 1 government relieved pro-vice chancellor Professor M Kamal Uddin in face of four months of protests by teachers and students and since then none was appointed at the post.
The university experienced a long four months deadlock situation over the issue of demanding removal of the VC, Pro-VC and since September 8 last year. The stalemate began as the teachers of the university under the banner of Islamic University Teachers Association (IUTA) started agitation for their alleged involvement in irregularities in the recruitment of 132 teachers and officials at the university on September 7.
Government removed VC on December 24 and appointed Prof. Abdul Hakim Sarkar of Dhaka University as VC on December 28.
Prof Shaheen is a versatile talent in the field of intellectuality. He has a long 21 years of tuned teaching carrier. He holds a strong academic background. He holds 1st class 1st position in Masters in English in the University of Rajshahi. He took his Bachelor of Arts Degree (Honours) in English, 1st Position, 2nd Class, when nobody obtained 1st class in the academic year from the same university.
He took his MS (P. Phil) from the College of Arts and Science at Indiana University; Bloomington, USA under the supervision of Professor distinguished Dr. Henry Glassie. He then had his PhD from Islamic University. Prof Shaheen has already published four books and three more books are likely to be published soon. He contributed about 22 research articles to different journals in and around the country.  In the early period of his career, Shaheen joined as Lecturer (English) at the University of Khulna, Bangladesh in1991. He joined as Lecturer at the Department of English Lang. & Lit at Islamic University of Kushtia in 1994. He joined  the Department of English at Jahangirnagar University  on 1 Aug 2011as  full Professor and 1April 2010 to 27 Jul 2011 Professor & Chairman, Department of English, Jagannath University, Dhaka, 7 May 2010 to 27 Jul 2011 Director, Center for English Language, Jagannath University, Dhaka, Bangladesh, He is a Syndicate Member, Jagannath University since April 2010.
Shaheen is an expertise on curriculum designing  of English Language Teaching at Diploma, Graduate and Post-graduate levels as the Director of Centre for English at Jagannath University, Dhaka, Courses of English Language from basic to  the advanced level taught to the students of different Departments at the University and as the Director of Center for English Language at Jagannath University, Dhaka, he played the significant role of coordinating between basic English Language courses of different Departments, offering Certificate Course in English Language, offering Diploma in English and MA in ELT
Currently serving as a Professor in the Department of English at Jahangirnagar University, Dhaka (served as the senior most Professor in the Department of English at Jagannath University, Dhaka & at Islamic University, Kushtia, Bangladesh), chairing & attending different meetings related to research and academic matters, attending the meetings to appoint teachers at the level of Lecturer-Professor in different government Universities, conducting training/s arranged for the teachers of Government Colleges in Bangladesh and so on.
He also supervised a number of M. Phil and PhD researches.
Rector, Bangladesh Debating Society, Prof Shaheen is also a Lifelong Member, Bangla Academy, Member of American Folklore Society and Member of Folklore Forum, Indiana University, Bloomington, USA.
