Arrested Meherpur teachers freed in bail

Meherpur Judicial magistrate court here on Friday granted bail of three teachers arrested on Thursday night.
The court also ordered not to harass the teachers further.
The teachers are Hasanuzzaman, an assistant teacher of Gangni Pilot High School, Ajmat Ali of CFM High School and Anwarul Haque of Maminpur High School. They were arrested on Thursday night in connection with a case filed on same day over an incident of their enforcing power for keeping classes off at an educational institution in the upazila.
Police sued against 300 teachers over the incident.
Officer-in-charge of Gangni Police Station Mizanur Rahman told that a group of teachers brought a procession in the upazila at about 12.30:pm. They have been demonstrating from early January keeping classes off like in the capital and other parts of the country demanding their institutions to be included in the government’s Monthly Payment Order (MPO) system.
The agitating teachers entered into Sandhani School and College, an education institution run by a Japanese charity organisation at Tejpara area in the upazila and asked the teachers to stop the class.
Sources said teachers of the school were continuing class there.
A clash began between the teachers and students of the school and the agitating teachers at one stage of altercation.
On information, police from Gangni police station rushed to the spot and dispersed the agitating teachers charged baton. Police also arrested the three teachers.
Mizanur Rahman, a sub-inspector of Gangni Police Station, filed the case with the police station Thursday night.
Allegation of keeping the classes off at the educational institutions in the upazila was also included in the case. The OC of Gangni Police Station told that the teachers, who were arrested in connection with the case, got bail while they were produced before Meherpur Judicial Magistrate Court Friday noon.
Afzal Hossain, president of Gangni upazila teachers association condemned and protested the incident of the teachers’ arrest terming the case “false and harassing”.
Next course of programmes would be taken in the meeting of teachers association on Saturday and their agitation will continue, he added.
