Inter-city bus fare hiked

Times National Desk - January 20th, 2013

The government on Sunday increased inter-district bus fares, 13 days into the hike in fuel prices.
Bus passengers will have to pay now an additional 10 paisa per kilometre, Communications Minister Obaidul Quader told newsmen after a bus fare-related meeting at his ministry. The revised fare would come into effect from Tuesday.
However, the Dhaka and Chittagong city dwellers would not have to count the extra charge, the minister added.
The inter-city passengers now pay Tk 1.35 for per kilometre which will be Tk 1.45 from Tuesday.
On January 3, the government increased prices of diesel and kerosene by Tk 7 a litre, and octane and petrol by Tk 5 a litre to reduce its subsidy burden. The price of diesel and kerosene has been raised to Tk 68 a litre, and the prices of octane and petrol have been increased to Tk 99 and Tk 96 a litre.
