20 hurt in clash in Kushtia

At least 20 people were injured in a clash between two groups of people reportedly belonging to ruling Awami League at Gajnavipur in sadar upazila in the district yesterday.
Police arrested one from the spot.
The clash started over establishment of supremacy in the area.
Ruhul Amin, officer-in-charge of Islamic University (IU) Police Station told that there had been a long rivalry between two groups—-one led by Haraf Mollah and other by Nabis Mollah over the establishment of their supremacy in the area. Both belong to ruling Awami League’s politics.
Yesterday, some people engaged in altercation at the village over various issues. Then the people divided into two groups leading by Haraf and Nabis and locked fight at about 11.30:am.
At least 20 people of both groups got injured. The rivals used various lethal weapons like bamboo sticks, iron rod and brick pelts during the clash.
A team from IU police station rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
Police arrested one Hasan Foej Ali of Haraf group from the spot.
Of the injured, Jewel Hossain, 24, Serajul Islam, 42, Abdu Razzak, 37 and Tarob Ali were admitted to Kushtia general hospital.  Additional police force was deployed at the area to avert further clash.
