General students demanded classes, exams at IU

Staff Correspondent - December 16th, 2012

General students of Islamic University (IU) formed human chain on Saturday demanding immediate resumption of class and examinations in the university.
Around 200 students under the banner of IU Sachetan Sikharti Samaj brought a rally in the campus. The rally paraded different faculties and then formed human chain in front of university central Sahid Minar.
Sayed Pradhan, a Masters student of Management Department in the chair, the rally was addressed by students of different departments. The students demanded immediate resolve of the on going deadlock in the university.
“It is very painful that no initiative by the government is seen to solve the crisis the university faces for long three months,” Sujata Biswas, a student of Mathematics department told.
The students appealed to the government to take immediate step to remove the stalemate of the university. They alleged the university present administration for their negligence of interest of general students.
“The administration is failed to resolve the crisis, but it created the trouble,” the students alleged.
The university is at a  deadlock in last three months since September 8.  the trouble began following a huge controversy over appointment of 132 teachers and officials in the university on September 7.
The Islamic University Teachers Association (IUTA) first alleged massive corruption and nepotism in the recruitment. They started movement on September 8 demanding cancellation of the recruitment and removal of the Vice-Chancellor, Pro-Vice Chancellor and Treasurer of the university. No class and examination has been held at the university since the period as the teachers declared no work without removing the VC, Pro-VC and Treasurer.
Meanwhile, first year honours admission test for 2012-2013 slated on October 17 has been suspended.
Now the university is going on with desolate and silent as large number of students, officials and employees are not going to campus.
The IUTA everyday is holding their programme of besieging the administration building.
Besides, no high officials of the university including VC, Pro-VC and Treasurer are absent from the office since November 20.
Registrar office sources said Prof Kamal Uddin was on 15 days leave since November 20. But did not join at the university. VC Prof. Alauddin and Treasurer Prof Sahajahan Ali are absent in the campus without taking any formal leave, registrar office sources said.
