Staff Correspondent - January 8th, 2013

Monitoring of water level jointly by India and Bangladesh under the Ganges Water Sharing Treaty at Hardinge Bridge point in Kushtia started from Tuesday.
A two-member delegation from India comprising Deputy Director of Water Commission Reajesh Shah and Assistant Director BM Brocker and a three-member Bangladeshi delegation, headed by Deputy Divisional Engineer Mahtab Hossain and Roice Uddin and Deputy Assistant Engineer MOfazzol Hossain on Tuesday visited the Hardinge Bridge area.
The team examined the water level at 10,000 feet upstream of the Padma from the Hardinge Bridge, team sources said.
“It is regular phenomenon when two joint experts committees, one in India and one in Bangladesh, record the water level for five months from January 1 to May 31,” told Executive Engineer of GK project Abdus Sattar.
In accordance with the treaty, Bangladesh is to get 67,650 cusecs of water every day on average in the first cycle of 10 days of January.
