Times National Desk - January 8th, 2013

Eleven cases were filed against more than 100 people on Sunday for blasting cocktails and torching vehicles on the eve of the BNP-led 18-party alliance’s hartal.
Police filed the cases with 10 police stations in the capital, Masudur Rahman, deputy commissioner of the media and community centre of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), told The Daily Star.
The cases were filed with Ramna, New Market, Lalbagh, Kotwali, Sabujbagh, Tejgaon Industrial Area, Mirpur, Kafrul, Gulshan and Banani police stations.
Two of the cases were filed with the Ramna Police Station while one each with the others, Masudur said.
The cases of Kotwali and Sabujbagh police stations were filed under Explosive Substances Act while the case of Kafrul Police Station was filed under the Speedy Trial Act. The rests were filed under the penal code, he added.
At least seven vehicles were set on fire and 10 cocktails were blasted at different parts in the capital on Saturday.

The BNP-led 18-party alliance is observing a countrywide dawn-to-dusk hartal on Sunday protesting the latest fuel price hike.
