Outlaw killed in Chuadanga ‘shootout’

Staff Correspondent - March 5th, 2013

A top cadre of Purbo Banglar Communist Party (PBCP-ML) faction Janajuddho was killed in a ‘shootout’ between his cohorts and police in Damurhuda upazila of Chuadanga Sunday night.
Ahsan Habib, officer-in-charge of Damurhuda police station told that Abdul Halim, 39, was accused in eight cases filed with Damurhuda Model Police Station.
A gang led by Halim intercepted the van of a patrol police at Iswarchandra area in Damurhuda around 10:30pm, Habib said.
They wanted to know the identities of the policemen, who were inside the vehicle.
As the gang came to know that the van was carrying law enforcers, they started running.
Chased by the law enforcers, the gang opened fire on police, forcing them to fire back that triggered an hour-long gunfight.
“We found the body lying on the spot after the outlaws fled the scene,” OC said adding that police later identified the deceased as Halim.
Police recovered a revolver and two bullets from the spot.
The body was sent to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
According to police record, Halim joined with the outfit in 1996.
Police arrested him in 1999, 2005 and 2010 in connection with different cases but he went out of jail on bail every time.
