Bomb attack on Bheramara UNO, none arrested

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Bheramara in Kushtia was injured when unidentified criminals hurled bombs on him Monday night. .
Another government official was also injured in the incident.
Both, UNO —–Rajibul Islam and One House, One Farm official Touhidul Islam have taken treatment and he is now out of danger.
The incident took place inside the upazila complex.
Chokdar Abdul Halim, Assistant Police Super (ASP-Bheramara circle) told that gang of about 3/4 charged two bombs on him when he was returning his quarter, around 200 yards from Bheramara Officer- Club at about 10.00:pm.
Both got injuries in head and hands.
Hearing the sounds, residents inside the upazila complex rushed to the spot. They rushed them to Bheramara upazila health complex.
Moshiul Islam, Residential Medical Officer (RMO) of the health complex told that both are out of danger and both were later shiifted to Kushtia general hospital for better treatment.
On information, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kushtia Syed Belal Hossain, Police Super Mofiz Uddin Ahmed visited the spot in the night.
An employee of UNO office filed a case with Bheramara police station in this connection on Wednesday accusing unknown people.
Nazrul Islam, an employee of the UNO office who was only witness of the incident filed the case.
Beside, police arrested one people on suspicious on the incident. Identified as Saiful Islam, 37, the arrestee had rivalry with UNO over arbitration in last year and Saiful threatened UNO to ‘take revenge’, police said.
Unidentified criminals hurled two bombs targeting UNO Rajibul when he was returning to his quarter at about 10.00:pm. The incident took place inside the upazila complex.
“We are examining different previous issues related with UNO’s activities can be the causes behind the attack,” Mofiz Uddin Ahmed, superintendent of police Kushtia told.
Sp told that some people who were either not satisfied or angry over activities by the UNO might have carried out this heinous act.
“We are trying to trace these people and Saiful was one of them angry over an arbitration when UNO punished him and he (Saiful) threatened to ‘kill’ him,” SP told.
According to police, Saiful allegedly snatched a truck from Bheramara area in November 2012 claiming the ownership of the truck. The truck was owned by one Moakkel Ali in Savar in Dhaka.
Moakkel filed an allegation to UNO Rajibul. Then UNO called both sides in his office and returned the truck to Moakkel. UNO also in mobile court fined Saiful Tk. 25, 000 for harassing innocent people.
Saiful threatened UNO to ‘kill’ him on broad day light.
This correspondent talked to UNO Rajibul at Kushtia general hospital.
‘I exactly can not make any guess what I had done through my service at the upazila that can be cause of attempt to kill me,” he said.
He said police is investigating the matter and he is hopeful that the criminals will be arrested.
When contacted, SP told that drive has already launched to arrest the attackers. SP however could not detail causes behind the attack.
