2 Jamaat, Shibir men die in BGB firing in Satkhira

Two activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir were killed and three bullet-hit as members of Border Guard Bangladesh, attacked by pickets, opened fire in Kalaroa upazila of Satkhira during Jamaat-sponsored hartal on Monday.
Hossain Shawkat, upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) of Kolaroa, confirmed the deaths. Local administration has imposed section 144 in Kalaroa municipality for an indefinite period since 12:30pm.
Witnesses said the Jamaat-Shibir men blocked the Kalaroa-Sarashkati road by putting logs since morning.
They attacked police as the law enforcers from Sarashkati outpost rushed to the spot and tried to remove the logs around 10:30am.
The police team backed to the station and went to the spot against along with BGB personnel. But the unruly activists of Jamaat and Shibir encircled the team and started to hurl brick chips at them.
In retaliation, the law enforcers opened fire that left two killed and three others injured.
Restriction on gathering remained in force at several places in Debhata and Ashashuni upazilas since Thursday.
Meanwhile, the Jamaat-Shibir activists also looted and torched the houses of an Awami League union leader and three Jubo League workers in Kalaroa and Satkhira Sadar upazila.
