Meherpur ruling party tense over Bipul killing

Politics inside the ruling party in Meherpur district is getting tense over filing case in the murder of Meherpur municipality councilor also former general secretary of Meherpur district Jubo League Abdullah Al Mamun Bipul.
Beli Khatun, wife of Bipul filed the case accusing seven Jubo League leaders and activists including president of district unit Jubo League Sazzadul Anam Palash with Meherpur sadr police station on Wednesday evening.
Other accused in the case are publicity secretary of district Jubo League Sahidul Islam Perisan, Treasurer Mahfuzur Rahman Riton, executive committee members of the unit Ariful Islam, Asadur Rahman Likhon, Yunus Ali and Mahfuzul Haq.
The case sparks heavy reaction. Meanwhile, police arrested Sahidul Islam Perisan on Monday night.
Besides, district Jubo League protested the case. They declared a series of programme to protest the case that includes protest rally, submission memorandum to State minister for Home and Prime Minister.
Decision of the programme was taken in a meeting held at Jubo Leagu’s office at Bara Bazar area in Meherpur town on Wednesday night. MA Samim, Vice-President of Jubo League presided over the meeting. The meeting was addressed among others by general secretary Sazzadul Alam Sazzad, Organising secretary Mahfuzur Rahman Mahbub, Meherpur sadar upzila Jubo League president Anwar Hossain Anu, Town Jubo League president Sheikh Kamal and general secretary Touhidul Islam.
As part of the programme, the Jubo League on Thursday submitted memorandum to Meherpur Deputy Commissioner (DC) Delwar Hossain and police super Mofazzel Hossain.
The Jubo League arranged protest rally on Friday in the town.
“We have sympathy on the murder but we protest the case as it has been filed to harass someone not involved in the killing,” Sazzadul Alam Sazzad, general secretary of district Jubo League told.
Sazzad termed the case as biased and harmful for Awami politics.
According to the Jubo League leader, earlier on 2010 when the then Jubo League Meherpur town unit president also councilor of Meherpur municipality was bombed to death, his family filed case accusing some Jubo League and Awami League leaders including Abdullah Al Mamun Bipul. Bipul was prime accused in the case. He was the then general secretary of district Jubo league also councilor of the same municipality.
Present municipality chairman Mutasim Bilah Motu and district AL president also administrator of Meherpur district Zilla Parishad Advocate Miazan Ali also accused the case.
“But nothing came out from the case as no real killers were accused in the case,” Sazzad told.
When contacted, Advocate Miazan told that this trend should end.
“I already asked the police super to find out the real killers and book them,” Miazan said.
This correspondent also talked to slain Jubo Leader Bipul’s wife Beli Khatun over phone on Thursday.
She blamed ‘politics inside the party’ as the cause of killing her husband.
“They (she mentioned the accused in her case) planned many times ago to kill my husband and implemented their plan on the day,” Beli cried.
Bipul was killed on Monday night. The incident took place when Bipul went to the house of a Jubo League leader Sahidul Islam Perisan at Katchripara area in the town at about 9.30: pm to express his condolence over the death of Perisan’s mother.
A group of 6/7 masked criminals shot Bipul point blank and killed him.
Police on Tuesday recovered a motorcycle and a pistol from a nearby spot reportedly used by the killers.
Police picked up five on Tuesday night including Perisan and released all four grilling Perisan.
Meherpur Police Super Mofazzel Hossain said police will pray for remand of Perisan.
“We will investigate the matter based on the case and other sources and we think the real killers will be arrested soon,” SP told.
