BGB-BSF agreed to solve border issues through discussion

Bangladesh Border Guards (BGB) and Indian Border Security Force (BSF) at a sector commander level meeting in Chuadanga Thursday agreed to resolve ‘major disputes’ through discussion and avert firing on innocent people.
Lt Col Farid Uddin, sector commander of Mirpur, Kushtia, led the 8-member Bangladesh team while Colonel RC Gore, Deputy Inspector general of Krishnangar BSF, led the eight–member Indian team in the day-long meeting held at the guest house of Darshana International Check post.
In the meeting, BGB raised several issues, including killing of Bangladeshis specially cattle traders by BSF, smuggling of small firearms, explosives and contraband items from India and sought help from its Indian counterpart to stop those.
The other issues discussed in the meeting include human trafficking, push in incident. The two sides also talked on re-installation of demolished or stolen border pillars and survey of the disputed lands.
In reply, the indian officials agreed in principle to stop firing at Bangladeshis and take effective steps to stop smuggling of firearms explosives and contraband goods, sources said. Lt Col Farid told journalists that talks were held in a cordial atmosphere and BSF officials showed a positive attitude towards resolving the issues.
