1st year admission test at IU starts February 23

Staff Correspondent - February 4th, 2013

The postponed first year honours admission test for 2012-13 at Islamic University (IU) will be held on February 23.
University Registrar Dr. Moslem Uddin on Thursday served a letter to the departments asking to take all preparation in this regard.
Earlier on Wednesday, decision for holding the admission test was taken in a meeting held at the university Vice-Chancellor office. VC Prof Abdul Hakim Sarkar presided over the meeting. Deans, chairman of 22 departments and other high officials attended the meeting.
The admission was scheduled to hold on November 17 last and postponed due to teachers strike in the university.
The admission test was scheduled to be held on November 17 last year. But it could not be held due to teachers strike in the university.
The teachers under the banner of Islamic University Teachers Association (IUTA) kicked off the strike in demanding removal of the then corrupt university VC, Ala Uddin, Pro-VC Kamal Uddin and Treasurer Sajahan Ali due to their various misdeeds.
The university got a deadlock since September 8. The stalemate began just after following a huge controversy over appointment of 132 teachers and officials in the university on September 7. Islamic University Teachers Association (IUTA) launched the agitation.
The IUTA alleged massive corruption and nepotism in the recruitment. They threw movement on September 8 in demanding cancellation of the recruitment and removal of the Vice-Chancellor, Pro-Vice Chancellor and Treasurer of the university. No class and examination has been held at the university since the period as the teachers declared no work without removing the VC, Pro-VC and Treasurer.
On December 27, Prof Abdul Hakim Sarker was appointed as the vice-chancellor at the university replacing Ala Uddin. Dr Hakim was a faculty member of the Institute of Social Welfare and Research of Dhaka University.
Later the newly appointed VC removed two other corrupted associates of VC and Pro-VC. They are proctor and student advisor.
Then the teachers withdrew their strike and went to class.
Now class and examinations have been started in the university.
