Twenty-five teachers quit at IU

Twenty two Islamic University teachers holding different posts have submitted their resignation letters demanding removal of vice-chancellor, pro vice-chancellor and treasurer of the university.
The resignation letters addressed to the registrar of the university were submitted to the Islamic University Teachers Association (IUTA) office, confirmed Prof Yakub Ali, president of IUTA.
“We have received their resignation letters. As none of the VC, Pro-VC, treasurer and registrar was available in the university, the letters will be sent to the authorities concerned on Monday,” Yakub Ali said.
Three hall provosts, two assistant proctors and four high officials among others submitted their resignation letters, Prof Ali added.
The hall provosts are Dr Mamunur Rahman, Prof Dr Waliullah and Mohammad Selim of Khaleda Zia hall, Lalon Shah hall and Ziaur Rahman hall respectively.
The two assistant proctors are Md Kamruzzaman and Dr Mofiz Uddin.
Four officials are: Tapon Kumar Joddar, director of computer centre; Prof Dr Mahbubur Rhman, administrator of Institute of Islamic and Education Research (IIER), Prof Dr Jahangir Hossain, coordinator of Bangladesh National Cadet Core (BNCC) and Dr Ruhul Kuddus Saleh, general secretary of Rover Scout.
Besides, 13 house tutors of different halls have also submitted their resignations.
Meanwhile, the IUTA leaders on Thursday once again called upon the VC, his deputy and the treasurer to resign for the betterment of the university.
They made this call at a discussion meeting held in the campus on the occasion of 34th founding anniversary of the university.
When contacted, Dr M Alauddin, vice-chancellor of the university, told over phone that he has not been informed about submission of resignation letters yet.
Besides, unknown people are threatening teachers and officers of the university involved in movement against the present VC, pro-VC and Treasurer.
Professor Dr. Abdul Ahsan Choudhury, president of IU unit Bangbandhu parishad filed a general diary (GD) on Wednesday night with Kushtia Model Police Station after receiving a threat.
In his GD, Professor Choudhry said that an unknown youth went to his home at Mazampur area in the town at about 11.30:am on Wednesday and threatened him with a warning that his son will be abducted if he on his voice against university Pro-VC professor Kamal Uddin.
Another threat has been given to the editor and publisher of Kushtia based English Weekly The Kushtia Times and Bangla daily Dainik Kushtia and Daily Star Kushtia Correspondent Dr. Amanur Aman. In a message from an unknown number, the sender threatened to cut off his hand and to abduct his son if he does not stop writing against the university administration. A stalemate has been prevailing at the university since September 8 following the appointments of 152 teachers and staff against 76 posts.
